Job Description:
Community Outreach/Education Specialist (Location: St. Thomas, USVI) Akoya, a small, woman-owned communications firm, is looking for a skilled outreach professional with a proven track record of fostering successful collaborations among businesses, local government, nonprofits, relief agencies, and the federal government in the US Virgin Islands. This individual must have 5+ years of experience in community outreach, preferably with responsibilities to educate the community or expand public services, including health care, social or emergency response services. He or she will be part of a USVI-based team of communication and outreach specialists who will work collaboratively to improve the CDC’s and USVI Health Department’s emergency response plans and communication structure before, during, and after hurricanes. The position will be based in St. Thomas but the person will be expected to travel to St. John and St. Croix for outreach efforts. The candidate must be ambitious, self-directed, detail-oriented and well versed in USVI communities and cultures. Established relationships within USVI’s public health community, schools, nonprofits, and social services agencies is a plus.
