The Virgin Islands Public Television System has an immediate opening for a Production Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and preparing equipment during and in preparation for television programs. Duties and Responsibilities:·Set up and operate remote studio production equipment for in-studio and remote productions, and serve as field engineer;·Perform routine adjustments and emergency repairs to equipment assigned to the production division; ·Assist in installation and modification of production equipment; ·Perform daily microwave test in accordance to MOT guidelines;·Coordinate activities of television studio and control room personnel to ensure technical quality of pictures and sound for programs originating in studio and remote pick up points are of good quality; ·Edit programs, promos, and other video productions on the AVID/Final Cut Editing System; and ·Edit long and short form programs independently with minimal instructions from producers and/or production supervisors. Qualifications:·Associate’s Degree in electronics or related field with three (3) years of engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, five (5) years of engineering experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job;·4 years of non-linear based television editing experience, particularly in AVID or Final Cut;
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
Excellent organizational skills;
Ability to operate cameras efficiently;
Ability to do mathematical calculations;
Ability to assess equipment and learn new equipment as needed;
Basic understanding of computer applications;
Ability to work well in a team environment and adapt to changing situations;
Ability to load and off load production equipment and lift set furniture with other crew members;
Ability to lift 30 pounds;
Ability to shoot hand held cameras during productions for 30 minutes;
Ability to climb and descend from ladders and scaffolds;
Ability to stand for 2-3 hours during productions;
·Ability to drive trucks, vans and cars and must have a valid USVI Driver’s License; ·Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends as needed;
Ability to work flexible hours and outdoors as needed;
·Ability to sit at a computer and stand for long periods of time;·Ability to follow and accept directives;
Ability to add creative input to programs;
Ability to troubleshoot minor technical problems with equipment;
·Knowledge of the technical aspect and function of all equipment, including server, VTRs, monitors, audio board and cameras; and·Ability to install and calibrate equipment.
