Job Description:

The Virgin Islands Public Television System has an opening for a Broadcast Engineer Technician position on St. Thomas. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the station’s television broadcasting transmitter system. Duties and Responsibilities:·         Devise compressive maintenance programs for the engineering department; ·         Operate, maintain and repair all equipment at the System’s facilities including but not limited to videotape machines, studio cameras, video switchers, audio mixers, sound systems, equipment/ computer interfaces and software, video editing systems, microwave systems, digital broadcast transmitters, character generators, television monitors, distribution amplifiers and power supplies;·         Assist the Chief Engineer in the design and construction of “custom-made equipment” to be used within the facility and all other engineering related duties;·         Layout and install all station equipment;·         Formulate and maintain accurate and complete engineering records with regards to maintenance, spare parts and capital inventory; and·         Instruct and/or train new personnel about the broadcast facility.

 


Skills Required

  Qualifications:·         Associate’s Degree in Broadcast Engineering (or similar degree), plus 3 years of technical experience in TV Broadcasting Industry.  In lieu of a degree, 5 years of technical experience in TV Broadcasting Industry; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job;·         Good working knowledge of master control operating systems, such as: on-air servers, automation systems, PSIP server, EAS equipment, archival systems, and the ability to maintain these systems; ·         Strong background in maintenance; ·         Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call for station emergencies;·         Good knowledge of digital broadcasting technology;·         Ability to lift 50 pounds;·         Ability to climb 75 feet on the tower; and·         Good working knowledge of three phase AC systems. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and three (3) professional letters of recommendation by February 4, 2011, to:  Diane C.
