Job Description:
The majority of the work involves Microsoft SQL Server. There is also significant Oracle work. The Database Administrator role is responsible for the management and maintenance of all production and non-production databases. Responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of database backup and recovery plans, configuration of database parameters and allocation of database resources for optimum configuration, performance and cost. In addition to operational database responsibilities, the Database Administrator collaborates with Application Architects to analyze data requirements, application and processing architectures and define logical and physical database schemas. Essential Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following): · Administer and manage databases in development, test, other pre-production, and production environments in MS SQL Server 2008 / 2008 R2, MS SQL Server 2012, Oracle 11g, Oracle 12c · Provide expertise in MS SQL 2008/2012 Security · Monitor database performance · Setup database maintenance plans and monitor SQL Agent job failures · Perform SQL Server and Oracle database Backup, Restore and Recovery · Migrate SSIS packages · SQL Server Reporting Services object deployment and security configuration · SQL Server Analysis Services support · Responsible for debugging and optimization of SQL queries and stored procedures. · Provides planned and ad hoc support to development teams for tasks including problem investigation, research, migrations. · Responsible for change management functions associated with changes to DBMS software and deployment across environments. · Works in conjunction with Application Architects/Lead Designers to understand project requirements and contribute to the database design. Is able to build both logical and physical data models. · Develop and maintain library of supporting documentation · Perform database migrations due to version upgrades · Responsible for ensuring technically appropriate database design for all requested production migrations · Assess design for data schema correctness, performance and configuration characteristics · Assists as a technical mentor in training for less experienced development staff · Participate in an on-call rotation responsible for after-hours high priority incidents |
