Job Description:

Mechanical Technician (Millwright)

 Responsible for mechanical support for this 20 million proof gallon facility, the Mechanical Technician is a key member of the Diageo USVI Maintenance Team and reports to the Maintenance Team Leader.  Normal working hours are Monday through Friday.

Deliver Outstanding Results

You will be responsible for:
  • Timely and accurate repair of all facilities, equipment and machinery
  • Troubleshooting, inspecting, diagnosing, adjusting, testing, and cleaning all facility equipment and machinery
  • Training team members
  • Maintaining mechanical inventories and reporting part usage
  • Preventative maintenance and asset care
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records
  • Working closely with the Instrument & Electrical Technicians
  • Actively participate in cross-functional work teams
 

As a Millwright you will:

  • Assemble, repairs and maintain machinery (pumps, conveyors, valves, compressors, blowers, fans, mixers, turbines)
  • Understand hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Read and understand mechanical drawings and equipment manuals
  • Accurately select and apply equipment lubrication
  • Operate machine shop equipment (lathes, drill presses)
  • Set, level, align, set clearances and balance rotating equipment
  • Operate alignment, measure and test equipment
  • Maintain, repair and replace couplings, bearings, seals, packing, and gears
  • QA/QC procedures
  • Complete approved Millwright Apprenticeship

  • Meeting or exceeding site Key Performance Indicators
 Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and appropriate Medical TestingThe successful applicant will be required to pass pre-employment, drug and alcohol testing and job appropriate medical testing. Closing DateResumes and Employment applications should be submitted to Diageo USVI by February 1, 2011.   Start DateWe anticipate successful candidates will commence employment on or before March 1, 2011.Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to walk, climb ladders and stairs, use hand and power tools, and occasionally required to lift up to 50lbs.  The employee must be able to work overtime and various shifts as needed to meet facility requirements.  
On Call
The job holder will form part of an “on call” team to respond to breakdowns, incidents or emergencies after “normal” office hours.

Diageo USVI

In June 2008, Diageo and the Government of the US Virgin Islands signed a public/private partnership for the construction and operation of a new rum distillery in St. Croix. The distillery will incorporate best practice environmental controls, including generating energy from the distillation by products and a water reclamation facility. Diageo USVI broke ground on the distillery in May 2009 with production set to begin in 2011. The rum produced by Diageo USVI in St. Croix will be used to manufacture all Captain Morgan branded products sold in the United States. Captain Morgan is a global leader among premium spirits and is the second leading rum in the world.  


Skills Required

Qualifications and Experience

·         Minimum 18 years of age

·         High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

·         Minimum 2 years relevant industrial maintenance experience in one or more of the following trades:

    • Welder (stainless steel, TIG and MIG welding)
    • Millwright
    • Pipefitter
    • Mechanic
    • Rigger

·         Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in all five of the above trades to become a fully qualified Mechanical Technician.

  • Forklift, man lift, and crane certification preferred
  • Experience with SAP PM or other Preventative Maintenance computer system preferred

·         Demonstrated teamwork capability and can-do attitude

·         Excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrated Problem Solving Skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety
  Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Applicants selected will be subject to a Background Investigation and will need to meet eligibility requirements for a TWIC.
