Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs professional and non-professional tasks involved in the medication distribution system, proper storage of medications, packaging, labeling of drugs, associated record-keeping, patient charging system, and proper operation and routine maintenance of equipment; Compounds sterile products under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist; Performs supplying and maintenance of all medication dispensing devices throughout the facility including but not limited to the medical, surgical, emergency room, operating room,. Employee health services, radiology, EKG.
Skills Required
Assists pharmacist in preparing drugs for dispensing according to department and hospital policies and procedures; Assists with the management of drug stock including, but not limited to restocking shelves, rotation of stock, documenting needs, removal of expired/damaged items, etc.; Assists pharmacists in handling requests from nursing units and other health care areas; Generates computer data necessary for the stocking of Omnicell Suppliers in patient care areas and cart fill reports for patient specific medications; Selects doses of medications and places medications in the Omnicell Suppliers and cart fill according to the Omnicell Restock Report and Cart Fill Report; Collects physician orders from nursing units regularly and deliver to appropriate pharmacist; Deliver medications to patient care according to policy and procedures; Returns any unused medication from nursing units to the pharmacy department; Processes transfers and discharges as indicated by census and/or Fill List before delivery of medications to nursing units;Prepares packaging of solid orals, liquid orals, and small volume injectables in unit dose containers according to department guidelines; Ensures that drug items are appropriately billed to appropriate patients or areas; Rotates through all areas of the pharmacy; Prepares and labels chemotherapeutic agents, Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN’s) and other sterile preparations under a Laminar Flow Hood (LAFH) or Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) according to established hospital policies; Follows departmental policy and procedures relative to area of assignment; Assists in ensuring that pharmacy inventory is maintained at an appropriate level; Fill Narcotic Omnicell Restocking Reports and perform regular audit of controlled substances; Adheres to established department policies and procedures of performance improvement, infection control and care of the environment; Participates in staff meetings and staff development activities; Assists in the training of new pharmacy technicians; Other related duties within scope of experience as required or assigned.
