Job Description:
Reporting to the CEO/President, the VP of Merchandising will lead a talented team of merchants to deliver strong sales and margin growth through effective assortment planning, vendor management, merchandising, and inventory management.
The VP of Merchandising will be a key member of Little Switzerland’s Executive team including Planning and Allocation, Marketing, Store Operations and Human Resources, and will lead merchandising in the core categories of luxury watches and jewelry. They will create a merchandising strategy that supports growth objectives, maximizing market share through close attention to customer trends, competitive activity, and sales and margin opportunities.
BUSINESS PLAN, ASSORTMENT AND MERCHANDISE STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT
Set category strategy, including price positioning, point of view, aesthetics, key brands, and assortment focus
Establish and continuously evaluate assortment plan including optimum product mix
Develop quarterly topline revenue and margin plans (in partnership with Planning)
Consistently analyze sales and margin drivers by identifying opportunities to drive incremental growth, including digital sales via website
Establish business KPI’s and goals for revenue, margin, turn, vendor relationships, inventory, and assortment by category. Coach team to track performance against KPI’s and create a dynamic strategy for dealing with macro and micro business trends.
Collaborate with Planning, Store Operations and Marketing teams on promotional calendar.
VENDOR MANAGEMENT
Establish new vendor relationships and work with existing vendor base to agree on terms and develop incentive programs
Set vendor partnership goals for team and lead discussions with top vendors to achieve these goals
Set frameworks and advise/participate in complex or highly strategic negotiations
Working closely with planning ensure accurate forecasting and close monitoring of owned inventory by forecasting customer demand over the short, medium and long-term
Lead regular business reviews with vendors and coach merchandising team to do so successfully
Skills Required
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required. MBA a plus.
7+ years of experience buying; 2+ years of experience managing a buying team.
Jewelry and watch buying experience a plus
Expert knowledge of merchandising, vendor negotiations, and assortment planning
Prior experience in ecommerce and website sales highly preferred
Must be a strong communicator and experienced negotiator
Must be detail oriented, analytical, and strategically oriented
Demonstrated success building and developing a team of buyers to achieve challenging business goals
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage competing tasks in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous environment
