General Purpose & Scope;

Performs network systems installation and/or maintenance activities, including all aspects of outside RF plant, tower, and power systems. Long term, temporary job with possibility of becoming on a full time position if the need is there.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Performs cell site/antenna installations and/or maintenance (wireline and wireless)

·         Performs routine preventive maintenance as required for all equipment outside of the MSC, including some basic MTSO and ancillary devices/peripherals

·         Tower Climbing

·         Repairs or replaces damaged or faulty items in a timely manner to ensure maximum network availability

·         Assists more experienced Site/Field Engineers in testing and repairing network equipment

·         Documents maintenance as required and prepares all necessary reports

·         Performs all components of cell site maintenance including automatic/manual optimization, antenna testing and results analysis

·         Reviews base station transmitter power budgets for accuracy

·         Maintains proficient knowledge of command syntax for all maintained equipment, including adjunct services, platforms and hardware such as CDPD, smart antennas, etc.

·         Performs testing, acceptance and analysis of T1, T3, DS3, and STM1, and OC3 circuits including Microwave or SONET systems, CSU, T1 interface devices, Digital Cross Connects and physical cross connects; utilizes appropriate test equipment (T-BERD or equivalent)

·         Performs testing and acceptance of fiber optic based equipment utilizing appropriate test equipment (OTDR)

·         Ensures all power systems are fully functional; performs and analyzes battery routines, performs voltage adjustments, and performs routines on rectifiers and DC power boards as necessary

·         Ensures proper maintenance of site buildings and grounds

·         Performs inspection of tower for FAA/FCC compliance, generator/transfer panel routines and basic troubleshooting

·         Performs inspection of microwave systems including routine preventive maintenance, equipment alarm analysis, inspection of waveguide pressure and desiccant, annual preventive maintenance on all radio types, advanced troubleshooting, basic installation and acceptance of radio and path alignment with tower crew

 


 Skills Required
 

Minimum Job Entry Requirements:

 

·         Associate’s degree in technical or business related field or equivalent industry experience.

·         Certified Tower Climber (OSHA, CommTrain).

·         At least 2 years experience working in this, or a related field, troubleshooting and integrating wireless voice and data communications and subsystems (preferably CDMA/WiMax technology)

·         Ability to work flexible schedule with some nights and/or weekends

·         Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required to travel to physical equipment sites

·         Ability to travel domestically and internationally <5% of time; valid passport required

 

 

Desired Qualifications:   

·         Understanding of multiple wireless technologies (voice and data) on one or more wireless network subsystems (CDMA/GSM/Wimax)

·         Understanding of Motorola Expedience Platform

·         Understanding of Hughes LMDS point to multi point technology

·         Understanding of Dragonwave and Redline radios

·         Cisco CCENT or higher certifications

·         Understanding of IP network architecture to include configuration of network switch and router equipment
